Northbrook, IL Plein Air Painting Festival
Description: Studying and applying the Intent, Design, Emotion and Awareness (IDEA) in Plein Air painting.
Focusing in on these four IDEA areas in Plein Air painting (areas often overlooked and undervalued) will increase an overall mindfulness during the seeking stage (what to paint and (why paint that) and during the entire painting process, which I’ve found directly transfers to increased quality and viewer connectedness. My method of teaching is through a combination of demo’s, lecture, one-on-one instruction and coaching, all with massive amounts of encouragement for those things being done right, as well as direct feedback for areas not perfected yet.
Medium: All Mediums, but demo’s will be done in watercolor and oil.
Location: Citizens Park, Barrington, IL
I'll be demonstrating oil painting techniques that quickly establishes a strong and compelling design. This includes;
Intent - Starting with Why. Why paint that scene to begin with?
Seeing - Art in the Ordinary
Design - Using Line, Shape and Value to its fullest extent in creating strong design
Edges - So often overlooked and yet the easiest to fix.
Color Harmony - Seven ways to harmonize a painting.
Guest Demo, Instructor and Critic for the Plein Air Painters of Chicago.
Today's location will be at the main Westside entrance to Lincoln Park Zoo.
Demo starts off at 8:00 am and runs to 9:00am, Painters paint from 9:00-noon.
At noon we'll have a short critique session discussing each piece and whats working and whats not perfect yet. Free to all.
Recognized as the largest gathering of artists in Wisconsin, 150 nationally recognized and local artists will leave the comforts of their studios and spend over a week painting outside ... rain or shine.
The resulting fresh-off-the-easel paintings capture a summer moment in Ozaukee County. These are paintings of small town life, charming historical structures, favorite coffee shops, lakefront vistas, and picturesque countryside.
Unlike other plein air events, Cedarburg offers original art for everyone. More than 600 paintings are for sale in a wide range of subjects and prices.
