Paint Cedarburg

June 1-2, 2018

This workshop is intended to prepare you not just for the week ahead, to Paint Cedarburg in Plein Air, but to equip you with new IDEA’s for a lifetime of making art.

Basic artistic concepts pertaining to the medium will be covered, such as Transparency, Simplification, Composition, Color Theory, Color Harmony and Value. A fundamental, hands-on working knowledge of the medium and equipment will be addressed. Emphasis will be on discovery of Intent, (why paint this scene in the first place) Specific techniques will be addressed to help students make positive Design decisions, tap Emotions and Awareness and work through to completed paintings, all with much fun and no fear.

Goal and Objectives: The beauty of watercolor painting starts in the mind of the artist. The possibilities of capturing and conveying your intent are, like your imagination, endless.  Experiencing the freedom and joy of painting in watercolor is our goal. Visualizing a beautiful landscape and capturing it on paper is our objective.

The Adventure Begins: After a short lesson in understanding design, composition and story, we'll soon dive into learning important watercolor techniques. At your pace, you'll slowly add layers of complexity to create art that is uniquely yours.

Locations: In and around the Ozaukee County area. As we get closer to the dates, we'll define several locations for painting outdoors and have a few locations ready for challenging weather days.

My method of teaching is through a combination of demo’s, lecture, one-on-one instruction and coaching, all through massive amounts of encouragement for those things being done right, as well as direct feedback for areas not perfected yet.

If this sounds like this class was designed for you, it is. Reserve your place at the "easle", I'd love to have you.

Supplies: Some students may already have equipment, so feel free to bring whatever supplies you have. Additional supplies can be purchased at a local Blick or via mail/internet order catalog stores such as Cheap Joe’s Art Supplies at 1-800-227-2788 or www.cheapjoes.com. You needn’t buy the most expensive art equipment, but it is essential that you buy good quality supplies.

A full list of supplies will be sent after signing up.
